You need the person, not the device
Built-in sharing is excellent — for phones already inside your circle. It fails at exactly the moment most people need it: a number you have, but an account you do not share. A contractor, a date running late, your teenager’s friend.

The hidden ones carry a real risk
Covert tracking of an adult can be a criminal offence in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the UK — and those apps quietly put that risk on you, not on themselves.
The visible version answers the same question. You lose the secrecy and keep the answer, which for almost every honest reason is the trade you wanted anyway.
How exact the pin really is
Accuracy is theirs, not ours. Under a clear sky, GPS puts them within a few metres. Indoors, the phone falls back to nearby Wi-Fi and lands within a block. With neither, it uses the cell tower — and a rural tower covers kilometres.
Any service quoting one accuracy figure for every phone on earth is quoting a number it cannot know. What we can promise is narrower and true: you see what their own maps app sees.

- Yes, while they leave sharing on. The pin refreshes as they move, and stops when they close the page.
- Can I do it without them knowing?
- No. The request is visible and tracking runs only on their approval — the last row of the table is why that matters legally.
- Do they need an app or an account?
- Neither, and that is the practical difference from the built-in options.
- Does it drain their battery?
- About as much as an open map page. Nothing runs in the background, because nothing is installed.
